Shibui Knits Knit A-Long!

My Sister Knits is having a Shibui Knits Knit ALong!  We love all things Shibui and many of you bought Shibui Knits yarn at our booth at Interweave Yarn Fest.  So we think it will be fun to knit something together!

Rules

The Shibui KAL started on May 1st but you can join in anytime before it closes on June 10th.  Use any Shibui Knits yarn purchased from My Sister Knits and make whatever piques your interest!

You can sign up in two ways:

  1. Come to the shop and show us your project in progress

  2. Send us an email with a photo of it in progress; info@mysisterknits.com

Finish your project by June 10th and your name will be placed in a drawing to win a project quantity (yes, even a sweater) of a Shibui yarn of your choice!  There are three ways to show us your finished project:

  1. Bring it into the shop and show us

  2. Email us a photo

  3. Post it in our My Sister Knits Ravelry group

Yarn possibilities

We encourage you to take a look at these yarns for your project:

Sport weight Fern is 100% organic cotton made in Japan.

Sport weight Twig blends 46% linen, 42% recycled silk, and 12% wool.

DK weight Echo is a blend of 52% silk noil (raw silk) and 48% Merino wool.

DK weight Vine is a unique blend of 41% paper, 31% cotton, and 28% silk.

Project ideas

One of the helpful things about Ravelry is that you can search for a yarn and choose the ‘pattern ideas’ tab to see what designs are suggested!  In addition to the project samples at My Sister Knits, we found an abundance of ideas on Ravelry!

Fern

Mirage, designed by Shellie Anderson, can be either a short sleeved tee or a tank top.  It has an intriguing feminine detail at the bottom! Oasis is a free pattern (with yarn purchase) from the Shibui Knits design team.  It’s a summer weight scarf knit on the bias with narrow stripes of color. Amos is a boxy tee that uses stripes of both Fern and Vine.  Designed by Tuulia Samela, it’s one of Shibui’s newest patterns for spring and summer.

Vine

Linea is a swingy, oversized, striped summer pullover designed by Shellie Anderson.  Elan, another Shellie Anderson design, is a short sleeved loose pullover with a shallow V neck that can be worn in front or in back!  Mitchell is a lightweight poncho with a high/low hem designed by Sivia Harding ideal for summer.

Twig

Donner, a swingy drop shoulder pullover design by Elizabeth Doherty, is on display in the shop.  We have two Churchmouse Simple Tees on display! Crete is another scarf knit on the bias. Shellie Anderson designed this and it has unbelievable drape!

Echo

We have Elizabeth Doherty’s Brickyard textured fluid pullover on display at the shop.  Plath, designed by Shellie Anderson, is a Coco Chanel inspired cropped boxy cardigan sure to become a signature piece!  Churchmouse Yarns Two-Point Cowl would be scrumptious in Echo!

We hope join us in this fun opportunity to experience the wonder that is Shibui Knits yarn! We’d be happy to help you choose another one of their sumptuous, elegant yarns and a project to go with it!
