Deal of the Day for July 17th: 30% off Modern Top-Down Knitting

We are trying something new this month with our Deals of the Day.  We are offering a specific book each week at 30% off, and with the purchase of the book you can also save 30% on any in stock yarn you select to make any of the patterns included in their pages. This week our Deal of the Day is Modern Top-Down Knitting by Kristina McGowan.

Kristina introduces her book describing how these patterns and her conception of garment construction has been influenced by the work of Barbara Walker and Elizabeth Zimmermann.  By introducing herself to Barbara Walker with a thank you letter after completing her first top-down project, she made a friend and a mentor.  And knitting once again has fostered a new bond, and created a way for women of different generations to share some joy and laughter.

The designs in these pages are beautiful.  But I feel that the real strength of the book is its overview of top-down construction and instructional material.  The pages covering shaping shoulders with short rows, and set in, seamless, top-down sleeves are priceless. They are supported with the very clear photos, and for once, I felt like I could actually grasp the concept from the pages of a book without a teacher looking over my shoulder.

Of all the patterns in the book, I think that I am most likely to cast on for the Pleated Arm Warmers.  I love the cozy texture of the ruched fabric and have imagined adding such a detail to the cuffs of a simple sweater for extra coziness.  These could be made with a single skein of Madelinetosh Merino DK.  The colors that we have in stock are gorgeous and would be a perfect choice.

We hope that you can stop by tomorrow to take advantage of this week's Deal of the Day.  Feel free to give us a call at 970-407-1461 if you'd prefer to have us ship you your copy instead!
