Techno, Extra, and Woolstok, Oh My!

My Sister Knits has just received a shipment from Blue Sky Fibers! If you happened to be in the shop on Tuesday you most likely saw our new yarn spread out everywhere! All of the gorgeous colors were on display!

Woolstok, 50 g skeins

Blue Sky Fibers used to be known as Blue Sky Alpaca. Owner Linda Niemeyer started out with a small herd of alpacas in her backyard. Since then, she has expanded her fiber inventory to include other natural fibers: wool, organic cotton, silk, and cashmere.

Blue Sky Fibers has a wide assortment of lovely yarns designed for every taste. Our shipment included a selection of:

Techno

Techno is a bulky yarn with a unique construction. Baby alpaca is blown into a mesh tube of silk. It’s a blend of 68% alpaca, 22% silk, and 10% Merino wool. This is a luxurious feather-weight yarn that holds up to wear over the years. It’s a dream to knit with! Swatching is a must because it blossoms when it’s blocked.

Extra

Extra is an aran weight blend of 55% alpaca and 45% Merino wool. It’s soft, squishy, and feels heavenly. It also has a springy twist which results in a fabric that has a bit of stretch but will keep its shape. Cables and textured patterns would work quite well in this yarn. A plain stockinette stitch would show beautifully, also.

Woolstok 150g skeins

Woolstok Worsted is a wonder yarn! This is Blue Sky Fiber’s 100% wool yarn from Peruvian Highland sheep, a cross of Corridale and Merino sheep bred to thrive at 6500 feet above sea level. Woolstok is a go-to favorite because it is so versatile. This workhorse of a yarn shows off equally well with plain stitches, cables, or textured stitches.  When you’re finished with your project, give it a spa treatment in a bath of wool wash and lukewarm water. Let it dry and you’ll notice the stitches smooth out and the fabric softens. Woolstok is a worsted weight and comes in both 50g and 150g skeins.

Upcoming Events

Knitting Conversations is Tuesday, February 22 from 6:30 to 7:30. We’ll go over ways to use Ravelry, how to use filters, and answer your questions. Sign up here or call the shop at 970.407.1461. If you can’t make it that evening, perhaps you can take this class on March 12th.

February’s Knitting Day is Saturday the 26th from 10 until 5. Our theme is Try Something New. We encourage you to try a new designer, yarn, technique, or type of project. As always, there will be breakfast treats and afternoon chocolate! Monthly Knitting Days are light-hearted, fun, community events where you can come and go according to your schedule. Some people come for an hour, some stay all day! No sign-up is required but it’s helpful if you let us know you’re coming, either by calling or telling us in person, so we know approximately how many to expect.

Happy Knitting,
