Knitting for Olive

Pernille Larsen was a first-time grandma who lived in Copenhagen and was, of course, a knitter. She wasn’t content just knitting for that dear little babe, oh no! She started designing for her!

Then Pernille was lucky enough to have a second grandchild and started sharing her patterns with others. In 2015, Pernille and her daughter started selling patterns for babies and toddlers online. Their company is called Knitting for Olive.

At My Sister Knits, we’ve always loved Knitting for Olive patterns; we usually have one on display! And we love the idea of a grandma designing for her grandchildren! Just imagine their wardrobes!

Pernille and her daughter expanded to designing for adults and, even better, they now have their own yarn!

We’ve been eager to see the colors up close and, oh my, they are gorgeous! Beautiful soft colors for the most part, with a few wild ones thrown in for good measure! We have their fingering weight Merino and their lace weight Soft Silk Mohair.

Their Merino wool comes from Patagonia and can be traced directly to the farm and animals it came from!

Soft Silk Mohair is a blend of Kid mohair and Mulberry silk. Unlike other mohair yarns from Angora goats, theirs is sourced from South Africa! As with the Merino, the yarn can be traced back to the individual farms and animals, which is quite amazing!

The silk is cruelty-free. The fibers are collected from cocoons after the chrysalises mature into moths and escape. The silk worms are not killed in the process which sets our minds at ease.

One other thing that is notable about these yarns is that Pernille and her daughter suggest which colors of Soft Silk Mohair are compatible with each color of Merino! There are anywhere from one to eight colors of Soft Silk Mohair that are compatible with each color of Merino.

We’re excited for you to come into the shop to see the newest My Sister Knits yarn, Knitting for Olive! We’re pretty sure you’ll love it as much as we do!

Happy knitting,
