Baby it’s cold outside

If the Kelbourne Woolens patterns from Weekenders got you interested in making a few fun accessories, we have another two patterns for you to consider. Two new samples recently arrived at the shop; and both are classic hats that are appealing to just about everyone who walks through our doors.  I guess all of us are looking for warm layers to snuggle into these days. shibui hat 01The First hat is the Shubui Mix No. 6 pattern.  This is a hat designed by Kristin Spurkland that I mentioned in an earlier post when we received Shibui Baby Alpaca DK yarn in the shop.  Our sample features the Baby Alpaca and Silk Cloud yarn mixture that the pattern calls for, in our favorite navy of all time: the Shibui colorway Suit.  We’re not sure how they’ve made such a classic and typically bland color so rich and lustrous.  A skein of each yarn was used for this hat and so the finished project can be made for less than $43. purl bee hat 01The second sample that we’d like to share with you is the Big Rib version of the Purl Bee Thank You Hat Pattern. This FREE pattern calls for an Aran weight yarn to be used. Instead, we combined Shibui Staccato, Shibui Cima, and Shibui Pebble.  This mix brings the best of all the combined fibers together to make a hat that is soft, warm, and beautifully textured (a real trick with stockinette stitches).  The combined skeins used for this hat total just under $64, and you may find the investment pays for itself when you have warm ears on a bitterly cold day.Stop by the shop while we have the richest selection of Shibui yarns and colors along the Front Range.  We’d love to get you started on a Shuibui mix of your own.
