Local Yarn Store Day Coming Soon!

My Sister Knits is one of the multitudes of yarn shops celebrating Local Yarn Store Day on Saturday, April 27th!

This international day of celebration was created by The National Needlearts Association (TNNA) in 2018 to bring awareness to the advantages of having a local yarn store close. We are extremely lucky because in our area there are several local yarn stores to choose from, each with a different personality.

When you walk into My Sister Knits, you know that you can have your questions answered in person, get personal advice, and take classes. You can also sit around the community table and make new friends while working on your current project. Perhaps most importantly, you can see and feel yarn before you buy it!

This year we’re going to celebrate by having free drop-in Skill Sessions all day long, starting at 10:30!

10:30 - 11 Magic Loop with Alex

11-12 German Short Rows with Alex

12 - 1 Continental Knitting with Tiina

1 - 2 Tubular Cast On with Tiina

2 - 3 Tubular Cast Off with Tiina

3 - 4 Color Dominance with Jenny H.

We encourage you to bring some yarn and needles with you so you can practice during the skill session.

Blue Sky Fibers bulky weight Techno

Blue Sky Fibers is supporting Local Yarn Store Day! They’re offering a free pattern code with purchase of any Blue Sky Fibers yarn on Saturday, April 27th. The code will be good through Monday, April 29th. They have 228 patterns to choose from in their Ravelry store

We carry worsted weight Woolstok, fingering weight Woolstok Light, aran weight Extra, and bulky weight Techno. These yarns range from divine (Techno) to a soft and squishy alpaca/Merino blend (Extra) to hard working with wonderful stitch definition (Woolstok).

Woolfolk Tynd color 01 and Spincycle Dyed in the Wool colorway The Castle, perfect for Spring!

Have you chosen your yarn for Spincycle’s Cowlgirl KAL? I decided to join the fun! I’m going to make the Tinos Cowl by Hilary Smith Callis and I’m using one skein of Woolfolk Tynd for my other yarn. This pattern has explicit line-by-line directions and you start with casting on only one stitch! It needs to be seamed at the end which is one of my least favorite things to do, probably because I don’t do it very often. I’ll look at it as great practice and not a drawback! I’m also going to carry my yarn up the side of the cowl to avoid weaving in ends, as mentioned in the projects. I think it will show off the Spincycle beautifully!

One last thing, be sure to come in to see and feel the leather items in our muud Leather Goods trunk show next week! They are so soft!

Happy knitting,
