Since Thanksgiving will be different this year for most of us, we’d like to introduce you to the Danish concept of Hygge.  Hygge (pronounced hue-guh or hoo-gah according to various sources) embodies coziness.  It’s an atmosphere that makes a person feel content and comfortable by surrounding themselves with the things that make life good.  Things like warmth in the way of a fire and a soft blanket or throw, soft light created with candles and lamps, friendship, laughter, seasonal food and drink, and relaxing music.

We like to think that My Sister Knits embodies Hygge, especially during the holidays.  When you think about it, knitting is definitely hygge, creating warm, cozy garments and accessories. When you pair it with a fire, a hot drink, music or a favorite movie, a candle or two or three, you are ‘hyggeing’!

Our candles that are always burning in the shop are one of the easiest ways to create a sense of Hygge in your own home.  A few of those along with some knitting, good food, perhaps a Christmas movie or some relaxing music will go a long way towards creating a cozy Thanksgiving weekend.

We love the candles from Wax and Wool so much! Kjerste hand pours these in small batches in Puyallup, Washington, 30 miles south of Seattle. Each candle has a burn time of 50-60 hours. In addition to the holiday scents that have just arrived, we also have our own scents that Kjerste created just for My Sister Knits.

We had fun during the summer and early fall sniffing the samples she sent us and tweaking them until they were exactly what we wanted to represent My Sister Knits!

Poudre Trail is infused with saffron, clove, sandalwood, amber, patchouli, and rich potting soil.  Horsetooth Falls is infused with incense, leather, woodsmoke, and freshly turned dirt. These two come with a specially made wooden stand that was created to hold Wax and Wool candles!

Besides helping to create an atmosphere of Hygge in your own home, they are wonderful gifts! Kjerste is so busy that when our supply runs out, it will be months before we can restock.  No pressure, just facts!
