Knits for new arrivals

Several of my girlfriends are expecting babies this spring which has me reaching for my needles and wondering what will be the perfect project.  When customers come into the store asking similar questions about what to knit for a new arrival, our brainstorming process often starts from a question of practicality: Do you want your gift to be machine washable?  The answer is usually yes.  The last thing any of us want to burden a Mom with is an anxiety about how to keep this new gift from accidentally falling into the laundry hamper, and turning into something that might be a tight fit for a mouse.

With this question in mind, I chose Anzula superwash merino to make two little dogs for my girlfriend Judy’s little girls.  She is expecting her second daughter this spring and I thought that Sophia (her eldest) might need a consolation prize when her sister arrived.  So I decided to make sibling pets for the girls using Annie Watt’s Howard pattern.  The two sizes were created by using Anzula’s Cricket (a sport weight) and Anzula’s For Better or Worsted (a worsted weight).  I hope that the girls will enjoy these little guys as much I did making them.

If you have a sweater in mind, one of our favorites is the classic Sock Yarn Sweater by Hannah Fettig.  Her child’s version of the pattern comes with a large selection of sizing options and we have a mouthwatering selection of superwash sock yarn.  We stock our local favorite: Sunshine Yarns’ Classic Sock; hand-dyed in Boulder by our dear friend Dani.  These beautiful skeins have a generous 370 yards and should be enough for the smallest size of the pattern.  We also have a wonderful selection of tosh sock.  Madelinetosh has an extremely loyal following of knitters who love her rich and vibrant colors.  Keep in mind tosh sock will be featured as our Deal of the Day next week on Wednesday January 23rd and will be discounted 30%.

We have a long list of project ideas for those of you with babies to knit for this Spring.  Stop by and we can find a fun blanket, a darling bonnet, or some quick knit booties that will perfectly fit your timeframe or budget.
