Local Yarn Store Day!

My Sister Knits is one of the multitudes of yarn shops celebrating Local Yarn Store Day on Saturday, April 30th!

This international day of celebration was created by The National Needlearts Association (TNNA) in 2018 to bring awareness to the advantages of having a local yarn store close. We are extremely lucky in Fort Collins because there are three local yarn stores to choose from, each with a different personality.

From the Fibre Co. trunk show: on the left is Galerie D’Apollon, designed by Emma Wright. On the right is West Cumberland, designed by Verena Cohrs, both out of The Fibre Co. Luma.

When we walk into My Sister Knits, we know that we can get our questions answered in person and take classes. We can also sit around the community table and make new friends while we work on our current project. Perhaps most important, we can see and feel yarn before we buy it! Life would not be as pleasant without MSK.

Also from The Fibre Co. trunk show, customized socks from Kate Atherley’s One Sock pattern and guidebook

We are going to celebrate in several ways: there will be treats, even more special than usual; sales throughout the store; a selection of free patterns; and an hourly drawing for all sorts of goodies. Free tickets for the drawings will be available when you come into the shop.

Additionally, we have two trunk shows for you to oooh and aaah over!

Lotus Collection from the Della Q trunkshow

The Fibre Co. has sent us a selection of sweaters, socks, and scarves. Many of the samples are made with DK weight Luma, a blended fiber with 50% Merino wool, 25% organic cotton, 15% linen, and 10% silk. My personal favorite is the Breton pullover. The socks are from Kate Atherley’s One Sock pattern and guidebook using Amble, a fingering weight blend of 70% Merino wool, 20% Alpaca, and 20% Nylon.

More from the Lotus Collection

Della Q bags have been a staple in the knitting world for years. We have samples from several collections on display with their current trunk show. Their Lotus Collection has all sorts of waxed canvas bags. These need careful examination to discover all of the special details such as yarn cutters, yarn feeders, separated sections, and more! There’s sure to be something that not only do you want, you actually need! I’ve been searching for the perfect backpack to take on an upcoming vacation and I knew as soon as I saw it that the Maker’s Canvas Backpack was just the thing!

Fabric Print Collection from the Della Q trunk show

There are also needle case samples from their Fabric Print Collection and mesh bags from their Oh Snap Collection. The snap top of these bags is snag-free and you can easily thread your yarn between snaps. These bags are lightweight and perfect for travel. I think that a couple of these are going in my backpack!
