Rosy Green Wool has arrived!

Three new yearns have arrived from the UK that we couldn't be more excited about. The Cheeky Merino Joy is a sport weight yarn of delightfully soft washable organic merino.  For those of you who never thought all those terms could be used to described a single yarn, it's for real!  The bright colors available make it a natural choice for children's knits.Rosy-Green-CheekyJulie cast on without delay using bright Bronco colors to make a good luck garter stitch cowl before the Super Bowl.  The cowl worked its magic and Julie reports that the yarn was a pure pleasure to work with, and was as soft as butter.bronco-cowl-02The other two yarns are breed specific fingering weight yarns. Heb Merino Fine and Manx Merino Fine each feature a blend of merino and rare fibers.  The Heb contains an 80/20 mix of merino and rare Hebridean and the Manx contains at 78/22 blend of merino and rare Manx Loaghtan wool.Rosy-Green-HebThe Hebridean archipelago off the west coast of Scotland is home to protected flocks of black sheep that grow lustrous durable fiber that protects them from north Atlantic gales.  when this fiber is blended with Rosy Green's soft merino, it creates a tweedy blend that is then dyed in soft highland shades that let the fibers' natural coloring shine through.Rosy-Green-manxManx Loaghtan sheep are native to the Isle of Man (located in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland), where they came perilously close to extinction 60 years ago.  Their fiber is a soft warm brown that can be overdyed to produce soft colors like those seen above. The rare Heb and Manx fibers included in both of these fingering yarns make these skeins precious, and each one is numbered due to the limited quantities of these fibers sheared each year. And best of all, a portion of each skein sold is donated to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust for the protection of endangered sheep breeds.  Your purchase will help protect some of the wildest sheep in the world. It makes us want to cast on without delay!
